Dental Care: Understanding Cavities
Cavities are major cause of tooth decays. Untreated tooth decay can lead to serious infections. Tooth decay can manifest by a visible hole in the tooth. People with tooth decay experiences these following symptoms:

o Toothache
o Pain experienced when biting
o Striking pain or sensitivity to hot or cold drinks/food
o Puss around the tooth
o Swollenness and Inflammation
o Bad breath
Cavities are generally caused by bacteria from the mouth. When the bacteria in our mouth interact with the foods we eat, it converts into acids. Plaque is the combination of the acid and bacteria in our teeth. It weakens the minerals in the enamel of our teeth. This then results to the formation of holes in the outer covering of the teeth. The acid then seeps into the dentin and increases the rate of tooth decay. If left untreated, it advances to the pulp where the blood vessels and nerves are located. This now causes serious pain and discomfort.
Fight tooth decay by observing a regular dental care regimen. A regular dental check up and healthy dental care habits is your best bet in fighting tooth decay. Daily dental care habits involve brushing of teeth and flossing. Brush your teeth at least 2 times a day or after every meal. Some foods are left even when you brush your teeth. Don’t forget to brush your tongue as it can be a dwelling for bacteria growth. Remove unwanted particles in the teeth by flossing. Also, a mouth wash can help reach the parts of your teeth that are difficult to reach. It provides you a fresher and cleaner feeling inside your mouth.
